3x detailed research into film magazine front covers

Empire
This Empire magazine front cover is for August 2008 and this front cover has many stereotypical features that you expect on a movie magazine. It has the large image in the background which is usually the main focus of the magazine and in this one the main focus is the new harry potter movie, which was very popular at this time. The title is in big red writing which means that people can see the title of the magazine from a far range, because Empire is a recognised film magazine people will want to read more into the magazine. There are a range of colours on this movie magazine which all cover different topics so people know what is in the magazine and what to expect. The ‘Massive Preview Special!’ shows that this is what they are focusing on and people will want to know this because these movies will have been reviewed by some of the movie critics so they will know what the best movies are. The layout of this front cover is that the text is spread around Daniel Radcliffe’s face so that you can still see the main picture but the text can still be read.

Total Film

The Total Film magazine front cover is for October 2005 and this front cover has 2 main colours which are white and yellow and this creates a professional front cover. They have used white and yellow on top of black which means that all of the text stands out. The only problem with this is that the title does not stand out as much as the words ‘King Kong’ so people may have to look closer to the poster to recognise what the magazine is. The main image is from 2 stars of the king Kong movie so this also shows how the main focus of this magazine is the new king Kong movie which is going to be released. The layout of this magazine is set out so that the text also flows around the image so that you can see the full actors. The ‘Ultimate Winter Preview’ is also highlighted as it stands out and obviously has lots of information about movies which they believe people will want to see in the near future.

First
The ‘First’ magazine front cover has a professional look on the front cover as it uses a theme of oranges and red with white text so that the white font stands out from the background. One of the main points which stands out is the ‘up for grabs section’ which is obviously the competition section and they want people to see this because they want as many people as possible to enter these. The title is in a similar font to the rest of the text so it doesn’t stand out as much as the sub title at the bottom which has red and white text, considering this; the title is still in a larger text which means that people will notice it from a far distance away.
