Planning the Costumes& Props

Costumes and Props

Props

Knife – I used a knife as the killers weapon because I think that it is a traditional weapon in a horror film and I think that any other weapon would have made it un-realistic as knifes are easily accessible and also cheap.

Map – I used a map as a location finder of where the killer was going to strike next and this meant that people could see the pattern that the killer was following. It can give the storyline for the killer which will contribute to the film.

Deserted Street – I know that it is not really included as a prop but I thought that it was an important factor which contributes to the storyline that the place was empty and he was the last one remaining.
Suitcase& Clothes – the suitcase and clothes is to show how he is in a rush to get everything packed so that he can quickly leave this village and arrive at his new house. This creates tension that the killer is near and he is the next target.
Car – this will be shown shortly at the start of one clip and this will show that he has arrived at his new house with all his stuff, expecting to be safe. This makes the audience think that he is now safe.
Text on Wall – this will be the end turning point as it will show the person who thought they had escaped that they in fact, have not. It will give the audience a surprise and the text which I am using will not look very good before editing but I think that I can edit it so that it mixes in with the background.

Costumes

Killer: dark outfit in all dark colours to connotate that there is an evil background.

Mask – the mask is what is how people recognise the killer and I think that this shows how I am trying to connect with the stereotypical features of a horror film as every killer has their own mask.
Everyone else will have stereotypical clothes for someone in the modern days.

The stereotypical clothes for someone who is included in the film will be:

Planning the Location

Location

Where: Flackwell Heath – using side roads and also the woods & fields

Why: I think that this is a good place to use because I know the area well and I can find places which will be good to film in. It is quite a quiet village so this means that you won’t hear the traffic and you will just be able to hear the characters voices and only a quiet background noise. I will also use the woods because it is a good place to create a mysterious atmosphere because you never know what is in the woods.

When: I will also be doing more of the teaser during the day and this will be the majority of the film because it can show what it is like during a normal day and then how it changes when it turns to the night. I think that i can film at any parts in the day because if the lighting is too bright then i can tone it down so that it is darker and has more tension.

Location Scouting:

High Wycombe

I did not choose this area because it does not have any green-land that the first scenes can be filmed in and it is always very busy so it would be hard to find times when it is empty to film the deserted street section.

Burnham Beeches

I think that this would have been an amazing place to film but it does not have many streets with houses near it and this would mean that I could only film the first scene here, I was considering doing this but it takes 40 minutes to get there and just to film one scene would take a long time and it also means that I have to find transport for everyone there.

Character Development & Actors

Actors

I will be using 3 actors in a range of different roles but will all circle around the genre of horror and the roles will include: Killer, Innocent Civilian (killed), and 3 other Innocent civilians.

Character 1 Actor: Rob Wells
Role in Film: Innocent Civilian Killed (1st)
How important is role in film: it is quite an important role in the film as it will be the first murder that happens and this will show the whole storyline. He will only be playing one small part of the film so he will only need to be in a few shots.

Character 2 Actor: Sam Dean
Role in Film: Innocent Civilian & Killer
How important is role in film: this role is very important as it will be the civilian which is in the majority of the shots. This actor is very capable of being this character because he has previous acting experience. The role of teh killer is very important as this is the person who has caused all of the murders and I think that I have chosen a good actor for this as he is very enthusiastic to play this role.

Character 3 Actor: Rose Campbell
Role in Film: Innocent Civilian
How important is role in film: this role isn’t very important as she will only be in two of the shots and these shots are shot as well.

New Sound Used

New Sound Used

Why I changed the music?
I thought that I would change the music because when I re-filmed all the clips were different length, and were on different topics so the music that I currently had was not going to fit in with the clips so I had to search for new sounds.

Chosen Track Name: Cinematic Boom
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/HerbertBoland/sounds/33637/
Why Used? I chose to use this sound because it is a deep bass which adds to the atmosphere of the film as it builds up tension.

Chosen Track Name: Bass capes – Ultra Low
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/suonho/sounds/58765/
Why Used? I used this sound when the murderer was close to the victims as it really built up the tension between the characters.

Chosen Track Name: Sound Forge
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/metamorphmuses/sounds/60721/
Why Used? This sound was used quietly in the background as it gave a good effect to the teaser trailer.

Chosen Track Name: Copland Drum
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/sandyrb/sounds/84337/
Why Used? This drum was used whenever it was quiet in the scene so that it was still building up tension.

Chosen Track Name: Inceptiomatic
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/Benboncan/sounds/104675/
Why Used? When you see the killer this is played first.

Chosen Track Name: Inception
Source: http://www.freesound.org/people/a.e/sounds/104832/
Why Used? When you see the killer this is played second.

Walking on Gravel

Chosen Tracks Name: Military

Source: http://freeplaymusic.com/search/category_search.php?t=v&i=1280

Why Used: builds up lots of tension throughout the whole of the track

How does it contribute to the atmosphere of the film? : It can build up the tension in the clips and also to supply tension to the text shots which are going to be used.

Chosen Tracks Name: Overrated

Source: http://freeplaymusic.com/search/category_search.php?t=v&i=1280

Why used: again, it builds up the tension in the clips and I think that you could mix this with the military one to create a very good track which can sound like they have been combined professionally.

How does it contribute to the atmosphere of the film? : it builds up the tension in the film.

Chosen Tracks Name: Bird Flying Away

Source: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=9329

Why used: it can be used so that this is the reason at the beginning when the person turns to see someone standing in the woods.

How does it contribute to the atmosphere of the film? : it adds more atmosphere to what has scared the birds away?

Chosen Tracks Name: Walking on Gravel

Source: http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=15562

Why used: it gives the viewer an idea of what the natural sound would be like and I may not need to do this if the sound for the walking are already quite loud.

How does it contribute to the atmosphere of the film? : it puts the viewer as if they are the people who are taking the footsteps because it puts them into that scenario

Acting Schedule

I think that I only need these two dates as most of the people who are included in my film can make these days and I can always edit this document if the dates have to be changed due to what times they can do .

07/10/11

As this is on a college day where I finish early I had quite a lot of time to prepare everything that i wanted to be inlcuded in the film, i could get all of the props and costumes ready for when the actors turned up. we can then film some of the later scenes while it is still light because i would prefer the first sequence to be in the dusk where it will mean that it will add to the stereotypical horror teaser.

06/10/11

I will devote most of this day to provide all of the filming for all the scenes which were not filmed in the last filming session. I will therefore have to get all of the actors together to shoot all of the remaining scenes. I am going to structure the order by the order which they are placed in the film so that if I miss the certain last sections due to time then I will still be able to start to contrast the teaser without having large parts in the middle missing.

Character Bibliographies (on other post about Actors)

Statement of Intent

I am going to tackle this subject of someone being followed by constantly relating what is happening to reality to show how it could happen to anyone around the audience. I think that I am the right person to take on the project of writing and producing the film because I have lots of ideas which I think can be connected to create a very good film.

Storyline

As the sun rises in the field of Flackwell Heath we see one character walking down the field as the camera follows his feet. He is walking in the beautiful sunshine, but he starts to hear noises all around him, in the fields, everywhere. He keeps walking as he thinks that they are natural noises of the scenery around him. He then starts to hear them becoming louder, as he turns around he sees someone standing in the distance, in all black, hood up. He starts running, running until he looks back and there’s no-one there. He starts walking back through the woods back to his house looking back on what had happened, he again hears the rustles of the leaves around him and he then starts to run, but he knows that he is being followed so he just keeps running, he then turns back and there’s no-one there so he turns back and he then gets killed, left in the woods.

It then changes to a scene of the perspective of people who are hearing rumours from each other about people disappearing and they then start to worry because they realise that people really are disappearing and it could be them next.

One of the people closest to them then die and they then start to construct a map which shows where people have been dying and they then realise that the deaths have created a pattern where they run through the town from one side to another. From this they can then predict where the killer is going to strike next... but can they stop him?

It then tracks one perspective of one of the people who lives the furthest away as they have to decide which way to go, whether to help everyone around them and risk their life or move away to the ‘big city’. He decides to try and contact the police from the big city but they do not believe what he has to say as it is usually such a peaceful place so they believe that it is a prank call.

He then sets off to track down whoever is left and in this way he feels that he is yet again, being followed, he find no-one... no-one at all...

He then runs home, finding all of his possessions and shoving all of them into a suitcase and he then jumps in his car and drives... away as far as possible, but he still feels strange. He knows it is not over. When he arrive in his new housing he settles down but in the corner of the camera there is still someone there... he then finds writing on the way with ‘no-one ever escapes’ written in what seems like blood, he then tries to escape this house, but the door is locked, he’s trapped.. and he’s not alone.

Scenes which are going to be shown
• The whole first scene of Flackwell Heath& the murder.
• Discussion about the murders
• Construction of a map of the murders
• Talking about where the killer will go next
• Changes to perspective of one person
• He runs down a deserted street, he is the last one remaining
• Him packing all of his stuff to leave
• Him arriving at his new house
• Him finding the text on the wall
• The last shot will be of the killer outside in the distance.

Draft Treatments& Title

Draft Treatments for the entire film

Draft Treatment 1

Plot

It will be about a killer who is working his way through a small town out in the countryside and this film will be showing the perspective on some of the villagers and the scenarios which the killer has placed them in. The main character will be one of the people who are in the far part of the village and are the killer’s last target as he will have to escape this village. They only problem is that no-one from the ‘big city’ believes that this would be happening in a small village which was one of the most peaceful places ever.

Ending

He escapes to a nearby town, but he is still being followed and this could lead on to another film.

Draft Treatment 2

Plot

It will be about a small area of a village which people have been disappearing into this will be showing the different areas where people have been disappearing and then it will be about 2 targets of the killers who then escape just in time but then want to track the killer down to find out who/ what he is. It will be a slow progress of the evidence which they find to track down who has been killing people and the twist is right at the end.

Ending

They trap the killer in a situation where he cannot escape and they then try to find out who he/she is but it is someone who is very close to them all.

Draft Treatment 3

Plot

This storyline will be a pure flashback from a bed of someone who has been experiencing murders all around them as the killer wanted them to suffer with viewing other people’s deaths while killing people who are the closest to them.

Ending

The ending will be where they wake up from the flashback and they then try to kill the killer.

i have chosen the title 'The Unknown' as i think that horror title are better if they are kept simple and get straight to the point of the movie.

What I learnt from audience feedback

From my audience results I found out quite a few interesting points which will influence what I decide to create for the end product:
As you can see from the chart, the most popular genres for people around the area which I live is Horror and Thriller and this may be due to the fact that when people are scared at parts of a film, they get more and more intrigued into what will happen next.

As it shows in this chart, it is very clear on what encourages people to see a film and this is why film producers care so much about what is shown in the trailer as they need to find a balance between not revealing the whole story but showing parts which keep the viewer interested.

From all the audience feedback I think that I have realised that I need to follow some of the conventions of a typical horror trailer so people recognise the genre and know the basic storyline of the film, but need it too create questions in the viewers mind which will eep the trailer in their head long after they have watched the trailer.

Genre of Choice: Horror

Horror films are unsettling movies that strive to bring up the emotions of fear, disgust and horror from viewers. They often feature scenes that startle the viewer through the means of the supernatural, therefore frequently overlapping with the fantasy and science fiction genres. Horrors also frequently overlap with the thriller genre.
Horror films deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden worst fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, if some films contain a plot about morbidity, serial killers, a disease/virus outbreak and surrealism, they may be termed "horror."

Plots written within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Themes or elements often prevalent in typical horror films include ghosts, torture, gore, werewolves, ancient curses, demons, vicious animals, vampires, cannibals, haunted houses, zombies and masked serial killers. Conversely, stories of the supernatural are not necessarily always a horror movie as well.
