5x detailed research into teaser trailers

The Hangover: Part II

This teaser is 2:30 minutes

The sound in this trailer starts off very positive as it is the wedding which they are at and it means that there is a good atmosphere in the area when they are getting married. It then stops and changes to a tense atmosphere as they are heading on a night out which is the same as they did in the first film and this means that they expect people to have seen the first film and many people have as it was one of the best selling films ever. When they then take their first drink it changes to a song which shows the tension in the air because of the atmosphere. There is a wide change of music throughout the trailer for all of the different scenarios which they face throughout the film.

The mise-en-scene is what you typically expect at a wedding at the beginning with everyone in suits and dresses’ and then it also has all the props which you expect in a wedding party and then this changes to what you would not expect after one night at a wedding where they are in a dirty, old flat and they don’t know how they got there.

The lighting is very bright at the beginning and this could be showing the bright future that they have and I think that this is to show how the scenario is as it is in a good situation where everyone is safe and happy but then changes to the dark when they have the flashback about the experiences and also when they wake up in this flat.

The editing is dominant as they have transitions through lots of flashbacks of the night before and they also have many editing of constructing the memories of what happened before. It then starts to build up to shorter bursts of clips and this shows how the pace picks up and there is more tension created by this feature.

The camera angles are varied throughout the trailer and I think that this is because they want to show the facial expressions of the actors to show emotions that they are feeling in them certain situations. The show some long shots to show the scenario that they are in and this can give the audience a feeling of what they will be experiencing.

The camera movement is not as dominant as the camera angles as this trailer likes to keep the camera still and just use the actors in still shots so that people can concentrate on the actors and what they are saying rather than having the camera moving around everywhere.

The introduction of characters is good as they expect people to recognise the characters from the last film as they are the same characters. They do not have different introductions as they are all still part of the same ‘wolf pack’. The narrative is the same as the last film so they expect people to know what is going to happen next.

The institutions and references that are included are ‘warner bros’ and ‘legendary pictures’ and there are two very well known institutions and the first of these is ‘Warner bro’s’ which specialises in films in three main genres of cartoon, action and comedy and some of their biggest films include: Looney Tunes, Harry Potter, Police Academy and Tomb Raider and this shows how they have a history in creating some of the most popular films ever so they would be able to take on this project for this new idea of a film. The second company is ‘Legendary Pictures’ which specialise in comedy and action films and their biggest films include: The Dark Knight, The Hangover, The Town and Due Date and this shows how they all have the same style for all their films as they base it around a storyline which can all be connected at the end of the film.
