3x detailed genre specific research into teaser trailers

Priest

The film trailer for the film 'Priest' has many typical feature of a horror genre and the main one that you notice immediately is the lighting as the majority of the trailer is filmed in the middle of the night which immediately fits in with the theme of horror as everything is scarier in the night. the music starts off with a dark beat and then builds up as more enemies are introduced and this keeps going as more of the storyline is revealed, it builds up tension throughout the trailer as you see more and more action happening and the music follows exactly what is happening on screen. it also has evil creatures which only appear in some horror films nowadays as it used to be that they would be in every trailer but now 'the unknown' is becmoing more scary as everyone has seen all the different type of monsters. there is only two sections which have text in and this is put to very good use as they connect together to create a phrase which relates to the overall film as the first one says 'even good' and the second says 'has a dark side' which shows two opposites but it obviously relates to the fact that the good side in the film has an evil side to it. The title which is in an extravagent font stands out as it is in a chrome colour which is on the very dark background, it also has the sharp corners which can represent the knives and blades which are seen throughout the trailer.

Insidious

All of the text throughout the teaser trailer is portrayed onto very dark colours which gives a mysterious feeling, this fits in perfectly with the horror theme. All of the colours are around the same colour scheme of red and black and these are very scary colours as the red can represent blood or danger and the black represents darkness and the unknown so when you combine them together you end up with the theme of horror. the main characters in this trailer are young children& parents and they seem to be a popular theem in recent horror trailers and this is mianly due to that when a young child is represented in a horror trailer they can look quite mysterious and creepy, this also links in with the fac that it is set in a normal household, and they do this because then the audience can relate to it a lot more as they can imagine it all happening at their own house. There are also examples of 'Unknown creatures' which plays with the persons mind as they dont know what to expect so whatever they see will create a new impressions, rather than playing with impressions that they have of other monsters. It also has sections which make people jump and I think this is important for a horror trailer as it shows fear and a lot of people will want to see a horror movie if it makes them scared.

Zombie Land

The main theme of Zombieland is a zombie invasion and this plays with peoples minds becaause they may start to think that this could happen in the real world if there was some kind of nuclear destruction. It also starts with people screaming and this instantly makes people relate to what they have heard around them as I am sure that all people have heard the same sort of scream where people are in fear& trouble so they can apply this to what they see next which is the zombies.

One difference with zombieland compared with other horrors is that it has a difference with the colours used as it focuses around all bright colours whereas most other horror films focus around red, black and blue, this may be due to the fact that it also is a comedy as well as a horror.
